The old riverfront town of Hoi An in the central province of Quang Nam, which used to be a trade station with historical richness, was recently assessed by The Travel website as an attractive spot for international travelers who wish to witness the unusual culture of Vietnam.

A recent story on The Travel defined Hoi An as one of Vietnam’s most visited places and a fantastic area to discover what port and international commercial life was like in the 18th century. Apart from the remarkable architecture, it is recognized for its great street cuisine, making it a perfect site to explore.

Cycling is the easiest and most economical means of traveling about Hoi An, especially if one is seeing the historic town. Most of the hotels in town provide rental bikes, but guests may always check outside the hotel, in the numerous accessible rental shops. Cycling trips are offered and give amazing opportunities of visiting the rice terraces, fishing communities, and the surrounding area.

Local cuisine is an excellent introduction to local culture. Visitors can discover street sellers and eateries on practically every corner of the town. Hoi An is home to a broad selection of cuisines from “banh mi” (Vietnamese sandwiches), chicken rice, “banh xeo” (crispy pancakes) to “my Quang” (rice noodles) and “cao lau” (a dish made with croutons, rice noodles, Chinese barbequed pork pieces, and fresh herbs) (a dish cooked with croutons, rice noodles, Chinese barbequed pork slices, and fresh herbs).

The Travel site also suggests floating paper lanterns on the river. Meant to wish for peace, happiness, and good luck, floating lanterns are a favorite practice among tourists to this old village. The vision of a Hoi An in the night with lights along the Hoai River is a lasting impression of times gone by and a current destination that links with the past.

Meanwhile, another must-see is the Hoi An Central Market, a terrific spot to witness an authentic Vietnamese site of trading and business. Nestled along the Thu Bon River banks, this market works throughout the day, with travelers and locals exchanging numerous commodities, including vegetables and fruit, handicrafts, spices, and street foods. It is also noted for giving economical silk tailoring services.

Visiting old pagodas is one of the recommended activities in the town. Hoi An was a convergence of different civilizations from Asia to Europe in the 16th – 17th century, and that’s why it is home to a lot of temples, pagodas, and shrines created in such diverse architectural styles.

Besides, roaming the streets of Hoi An at night is an excellent opportunity to explore the town with its calm and historic buildings covered in bright lights.

Another draw is sunbathing and swimming in the water off An Bang beach. Hoi An is not just an old town but also home to gorgeous beaches with blue water. Aside from the famed Cua Dai beach, An Bang beach is like a hidden gem, named one of the world’s most beautiful beaches in 2011 by Asia Travel Mates SeniorLeaders
