Post-Covid, Indians flocked to Vietnam

Pham Sanh Chau, the Vietnamese ambassador in New Delhi, stated that the number of visas issued by Vietnamese authorities to Indian citizens has increased 24-fold since the pre-Covid era. Currently, Vietnamese authorities are issuing up to 6,000 visas per day to Indian citizens.
Before the pandemic, Vietnam was only issuing around 250 visas a day, and the increase has been due to the launch of new direct flights between the two countries. He also told VnExpress International that there has been a huge demand for travel since the pandemic.

“Because of the pandemic, Indians, particularly members of Generation Z, are having a harder time obtaining visas to travel to other countries, which has led to Vietnam’s rise as an attractive new tourist destination.

“Making a visa application online is not only quick and simple, but it also only takes a couple of days.”

In addition to the eight routes that are already in operation, Vietnamese airlines will soon begin operating 11 direct flights that will connect popular tourist destinations in Vietnam with cities in India.

Before the pandemic hit, India was one of Vietnam’s growing tourism markets, with the number of Indian visitors rising from 85,000 in 2016 to 169,000 in 2019; however, the pandemic has halted this growth.

Since March 15th, Vietnam has permitted entry without the need for a quarantine, and they have also done away with requirements for Covid testing.
