At 8:00 a.m., a Senior Guide from Asia Travel Mates will pick you up from your centrally located hotel in HCM and drive you around the city. First on the itinerary is a visit to the Reunification Palace, the official residence of South Vietnam’s president until the end of hostilities in April 1975. There are several French colonial landmarks within walking distance of Reunification Palace, including Notre Dame Cathedral and the Old Central Post Office.
Visit the Thien Hau pagodas in Chinatown, which honor the Sea Goddess. Visit the fascinating sites of this area, such as the elaborate friezes, carved tableaus, and impressive incense coils, all of which are great for snapping photos. Make your way through the winding streets of Binh Tay to the market where you can buy anything from clothes to dried squid.
Early in the Afternoon
The War Remnants Museum houses a large collection of artifacts from both Indochina wars, and after you’ve finished lunch at a local eatery, we will head there to learn more about the recent Vietnam War. Visitors can get a feel for what it was like to be a prisoner of war by exploring the courtyard’s collection of massive military vehicles and tiger cages. Various aspects of the war and the atrocities committed against the Vietnamese people will be displayed on various floors of the museum. The Ben Thanh market is the last stop on our Saigon city tour.
