8 countries in 14 daysHow “The Great White Shark” Is Driving Vietnam’s Ambition to Become Asia’s Premier Luxury Golf Destination

On 18 July 2025, Australian golf legend Gregory John Norman was reappointed Vietnam‘s Tourism Ambassador for the 2025–2030 term. Known worldwide as “The Great White Shark,” Norman is driving golf diplomacy, luxury travel, and sustainable tourism – building on a first term that saw Vietnam win “Asia‘s Best Golf Destination” eight consecutive years and “World‘s Best Golf Destination” twice.
Deputy Minister Ho An Phong officially handed the decision reappointing Norman as Tourism Ambassador for the 2025–2030 term. Norman is a two‑time Major champion, successful entrepreneur, and active golf course architect in Vietnam since 2006. His renewed mandate expands beyond golf to promote Vietnam‘s heritage, natural beauty, and friendly people worldwide.
A broader role: Aligned with Vietnam‘s shift to high‑value, sustainable travel, Norman will actively promote cuisine, culture, and unique tourism products. Golf diplomacy as soft power connects Vietnam with international business and sports communities. His social media reach (175,000+ followers) and LIV Golf CEO role give direct access to elite players and media. He also plans to bring major tournaments to Vietnam and develop Greg Norman Golf Academies across the country.
| Course Name | Location | Year Opened | Notable Features |
|---|---|---|---|
| BRG Da Nang Golf Resort (The Dunes) | Da Nang | 2010 | Links‑style, ocean views, Norman‘s first Vietnamese design |
| KN Golf Links Cam Ranh | Nha Trang, Khánh Hòa | 2020 | 27 holes, award‑winning tournament organizer |
| NovaWorld Phan Thiet Golf Club (Ocean & Garden) | Phan Thiet, Bình Thuận | 2021 | Coastal dunes, two signature courses |
These courses are integrated into luxury resort complexes, making them ideal for golf‑centric holidays.
Vietnam welcomed nearly 21.2 million international visitors in 2025 – a record. Golf tourism revenue surged from US$600 million in 2022 to an expected US$1 billion by 2025, with the number of golf tourists doubling annually. Key source markets: South Korea and Taiwan, growing 10–15% per year. The country has over 80 operational 18‑hole courses, targeting 200 by 2030. Major new projects include Bai Tre, FLC Pleiku, Quang Hanh, and 11 courses in Thanh Hóa.
Vietnam has won “Asia‘s Best Golf Destination” for eight consecutive years and twice been named “World‘s Best Golf Destination”. Hanoi also won “World‘s Best Golf City Destination” in 2023 and 2024.
Golf tourists are high‑spending, stay longer, and are less price‑sensitive. With total tourism revenue ~US$40 billion in 2025, golf tourism contributes ~US$1 billion. Vietnam‘s luxury hospitality sector is expanding rapidly (55,000 new hotel rooms expected in 2026). Norman‘s ambassador role amplifies this shift toward emotional enrichment and authentic experiences.
With Norman at the helm, these targets are increasingly achievable.
Greg Norman‘s reappointment is a strategic partnership between a global icon and a nation determined to lead in luxury travel. Vietnam brings spectacular landscapes and warm culture. Norman brings credibility, network, and proven success. Together they have already achieved eight “Asia‘s Best Golf Destination” awards and two “World‘s Best.” The 2025–2030 term promises to make Vietnam not just Asia‘s best golf destination, but one of the world‘s most desirable luxury travel destinations.
Cảm ơn, Greg Norman. Vietnam is ready to swing.
