Hanoi has been named Asia’s Leading City Break Destination at the World Travel Awards 2026, confirming the Vietnamese capital’s place as one of the continent’s most rewarding short-stay destinations.
The award was announced at the gala ceremony held at CROSSROADS Maldives on September 27, 2026 — the same evening Vietnam claimed Asia’s Leading Destination for the sixth consecutive year and Asia’s Leading Heritage Destination. For a city that has been a capital for more than a thousand years, the recognition feels both earned and overdue.
Hanoi is a city of layers. Beneath its modern skyline sits the ancient Thang Long Imperial Citadel, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Around the tranquil waters of Hoan Kiem Lake, French colonial mansions stand beside centuries-old pagodas. And on every street corner, the smell of grilled pork, fresh herbs, and strong Vietnamese coffee reminds you that Hanoi’s most enduring cultural heritage is its food.
For travelers planning a first visit to Vietnam, Hanoi is the natural starting point. It is where the country’s history, culture, and cuisine converge — and where a well-planned three-day city break can feel like a complete journey.
