“The Majestic has watched the river for a century. From its rooftop, travelers have seen junks, steamers, warships, and now modern barges pass beneath the same sky. To stay at the Majestic is to understand Saigon — not as a destination, but as a perpetual flow.”
In 1925, at the peak of the French-colonial Golden Age, the Majestic Hotel opened its doors at the corner of rue Catinat (now Dong Khoi Street) and the Saigon River. Designed by French architect C. Batteur, the Majestic was built to capture both the boulevard’s elegance and the river’s romance. Its rooftop — the first of its kind in Saigon — offered unobstructed views of the waterway that had defined the city’s existence for centuries. From its earliest days, the Majestic welcomed captains of industry, colonial governors, and wealthy travelers who understood that a hotel facing the river was a hotel with a soul.
The oldest rooftop bar in Saigon, and still the best. Sip a signature cocktail as the sun sets over the Saigon River. Watch the city light up, from the barges below to the skyscrapers beyond. Live jazz some evenings. Pure romance always.
The Majestic underwent a careful, loving restoration in the 1990s, returning its lobby, staircases, and public spaces to their 1925 grandeur. Wrought-iron railings, gleaming hardwood floors, high ceilings, and period chandeliers transport guests to Saigon’s Golden Age.
Ask for a room facing the river. From your window or balcony, the Saigon flows past — junks, ferries, cargo ships, and the occasional dragon boat. Few hotels in the city offer this uninterrupted waterway panorama.
C’est Bon serves refined Vietnamese and French cuisine with river views. The all-day buffet restaurant offers international and local favorites, including a breakfast spread that has fueled Saigon travelers for generations — pho, dim sum, fresh seafood, and made-to-order omelets.
The Majestic sits at the corner of Dong Khoi Street and the river — the perfect starting point. Walk to the Opera House, Notre Dame Cathedral, the Central Post Office, and the legendary Continental and Caravelle hotels. Or simply watch the river from the rooftop and let Saigon come to you.
