Travelling with children changes what a beach resort needs to do. There has to be somewhere for them to swim safely, something for them to do when the beach gets hot, and enough room that nobody is on top of each other. The best family beach resorts get all of this right, and still leave space for the adults to relax.
This collection covers the family beach resorts of Vietnam and Cambodia. Da Nang, Phu Quoc and Cam Ranh have the strongest concentration, with several large, well-run resorts that are set up specifically for families. Cambodia’s quieter coast offers a more low-key alternative for families who want a gentler pace. These are places for travellers who want a beach holiday that genuinely works for children and adults at the same time.
Families with children of any age, from toddlers to teenagers. Also for multi-generation trips and small groups travelling together.
These are the qualities that separate a genuinely family-friendly beach resort from a resort that just tolerates children.
Connecting rooms, larger suites or family bungalows. Enough space that nobody is sleeping on a rollaway bed.
A separate children’s pool, or a shallow section of the main pool. Safe, supervised and easy to keep an eye on.
Supervised activities for children, usually aged four to twelve, morning and afternoon. A few hours of freedom for parents too.
A beach with gentle waves and a shallow shelf, so children can swim and paddle safely in the sea.
Menus with familiar dishes alongside local food. High chairs, early dinner times and children’s portions.
Gardens, lawns and open space where children can burn off energy without leaving the resort.
Quiet pools and adults-only zones so parents can find a calm corner when they want one.
Short transfers from the airport. Da Nang, Cam Ranh and Phu Quoc all have resorts within 30 minutes of the terminal.
Kids’ club resorts, all-inclusive family resorts, toddler-friendly resorts and resorts for older children each give a different kind of stay.

Yes, if you choose carefully. The best family resorts have adults-only pools, quiet gardens and separate dining areas, so parents can find a quiet corner even when the resort is full of children. It is worth checking that the resort has these spaces before you book.
The dry season and the school holidays usually work best. In central Vietnam, that is roughly February to August. In the south, the dry season runs from December to April. Tet, the Vietnamese New Year, falls in late January or February and is very busy, so book early.
