Vietnam has eight UNESCO World Heritage sites. These eight journeys explore the most significant of them.
Culture & Heritage Tours is built around Vietnam’s historic sites, monuments, architectural traditions, and living culture — from the Thang Long Imperial Citadel in Hanoi to the Cham temples of My Son and the colonial landmarks of Ho Chi Minh City. The journeys in this collection range from focused 10-day introductions to extended 14-day heritage journeys covering multiple regions.
Each journey has its own heritage identity — some centred on UNESCO sites, others on imperial history, ancient temples, architecture, or living culture. Every journey can be adapted, extended, or combined with a beach extension. Culture travellers, architecture enthusiasts, and families will all find a journey suited to their interests.
What “Private Heritage Journey” Means
Your itinerary is designed and operated exclusively for your party. Your own heritage-specialist guide, your own transportation, and your own pre-arranged heritage-character hotel stays. You travel on your own schedule — with private transfers throughout and no fixed group departures.
Culture & Heritage Tours is one of the collections in the Vietnam Tour Collections system — a set of journeys organised around how you actually want to travel.
Why Choose a Vietnam Heritage Holiday
Six reasons Vietnam’s cultural heritage deserves its own commercial collection.
Eight UNESCO World Heritage Sites
Vietnam has five cultural UNESCO sites — Hue Imperial City, Hoi An Ancient Town, My Son Sanctuary, Thang Long Imperial Citadel, and Ho Citadel — and three natural ones, including Ha Long Bay and Trang An. A remarkable concentration for a single country.
Specialist Heritage Guides
Our heritage guides are trained in Vietnam’s history and architectural traditions. They bring context to every visit — explaining what you are looking at, why it matters, and how it fits into Vietnam’s wider story.
Beyond Monuments
Culture is not only buildings. Our journeys include markets, craft workshops, village visits, cooking experiences, and — where appropriate — conversations with local artisans, historians, and family businesses.
Distinct Heritage Identities
Our journeys cover different facets of Vietnam’s past — UNESCO sites, imperial history, ancient Cham civilization, architecture, spiritual traditions, and everyday culture. They are not the same itinerary at different lengths.
Comfortable Heritage Travel
Historic journeys do not have to mean basic hotels. We pair every heritage itinerary with boutique properties and heritage-character hotels — from Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi to Azerai La Résidence Hue.
Heritage Plus Beach
Vietnam’s cultural sites sit close to its coastline. Hoi An’s Ancient Town is beside An Bang Beach; Hue’s imperial history is close to Lang Co Beach; the Mekong Delta ends at Phu Quoc. Our heritage journeys can combine both.
Vietnam’s Most Significant Heritage Sites
Every Heritage Tour is built around one or more of these UNESCO-listed destinations.
The Heritage Holiday Progression
Eight journeys, one heritage ladder — from a focused 10-day introduction to a 14-day multi-region heritage holiday.

Notes on Cultural Travel in Vietnam
Insights from Andy Nguyen, Culture & Heritage Expert at Asia Travel Mates.
Heritage Is Not Just Buildings
“Vietnam’s cultural richness is not only in its temples and citadels. The craft streets of Hanoi, the artisan workshops of Hoi An, the cooking traditions of Hue, and the river life of the Mekong Delta are equally important — and often more memorable.”
Hue and Hoi An Are Essential
“If you are building a heritage journey, Hue and Hoi An are the two most important destinations. Hue has the imperial Citadel and royal tombs; Hoi An has the ancient town and the Cham temples of My Son nearby. Together they carry the weight of Vietnam’s pre-colonial history.”
Early Mornings Beat Afternoons
“For heritage sites — especially My Son, Hoi An’s Ancient Town, and the Hue Imperial Citadel — early mornings are cooler, quieter, and softer in light. We design visits around this where possible.”
Architecture Deserves Its Own Journey
“Vietnam’s architectural traditions are distinctive — traditional wooden design, Chinese-influenced temple and shophouse architecture, French colonial Indochine, and Cham brickwork. If architecture is your interest, the Heritage & Architecture journey is worth considering.”
Combine Monuments With Living Culture
“A heritage journey that only visits monuments can feel hollow. Our best-reviewed journeys combine monument visits with markets, villages, cooking, and craft workshops — so the past and the present inform each other.”
Spring & Autumn Are Best for Heritage Travel
“February to April and September to November are the best seasons for heritage travel in Vietnam. Central Vietnam — Hue, Hoi An, and My Son — is driest from February to August. Hanoi is most pleasant from October to April.”

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best time of year for a Vietnam heritage holiday?
Vietnam’s heritage destinations have different optimal seasons. Hanoi is most pleasant from October to April. Central Vietnam — Hue, Hoi An, and My Son — is best from February to August. Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta are warm year-round, with the driest months from December to April. We plan each journey around the best season for its destinations.
How many UNESCO World Heritage sites are in Vietnam?
Vietnam has eight UNESCO World Heritage sites — five cultural (Hue Imperial City, Hoi An Ancient Town, My Son Sanctuary, Thang Long Imperial Citadel, and Ho Citadel) and three natural (Ha Long Bay, Phong Nha-Ke Bang, and Trang An). Our heritage journeys include visits to the most significant of these.
What makes a Culture & Heritage Tour different from a Classic Vietnam Tour?
Culture & Heritage Tours are built around Vietnam’s historic sites, monuments, architectural traditions, and living culture. They go deeper into each destination than classic tours — with specialist heritage guides, private access where available, and time to understand context rather than simply visit.
Which is better — Hue or Hoi An?
Both are essential. Hue is the imperial capital, with the Citadel, royal tombs, and imperial cuisine. Hoi An is a trading port town with merchant houses, assembly halls, and Japanese and Chinese influences. Our heritage journeys include both.
Can we visit My Son Sanctuary?
Yes. My Son, the ancient Cham temple complex in central Vietnam, is included in several of our heritage journeys — including the Vietnam UNESCO Heritage Journey and the Ancient Vietnam journey. The site is best visited in the early morning to avoid crowds.
Are these tours private or group?
All our Culture & Heritage Tours are private journeys — your own guide, your own transportation, and your own itinerary. No group departures, no fixed dates.
Do you offer private access to any heritage sites?
Yes. In some cases we can arrange private access outside normal opening hours — including early morning visits to Hoi An’s Ancient Town, private viewing at selected imperial sites in Hue, and evening visits to temples. Availability depends on site regulations.
Can families with children join?
Yes. Many of our heritage journeys are excellent for families with children aged 8 and above. We adapt the pace and content for younger travellers and can shorten visits where needed. Teenagers often enjoy the imperial history and the Cham architecture at My Son.
Are these tours suitable for travellers who are not history experts?
Absolutely. Our heritage journeys are designed for curious travellers, not academics. Guides are storytellers who bring history to life and adapt the depth of each visit to the interest of the group.
Can we combine a heritage journey with beach time?
Yes. Vietnam’s cultural sites sit close to its coastline — Hoi An’s Ancient Town is beside An Bang Beach; Hue’s imperial history is close to Lang Co Beach; the Mekong Delta ends at Phu Quoc. Several of our heritage journeys can be extended with beach time at the beginning or end.
What is included in the tour price?
All Culture & Heritage Tours include accommodation, meals as specified, professional heritage guides, private transportation, all entrance fees, and where available, private access to heritage sites. International flights, visa fees, travel insurance, and personal expenses are not included.
Can I customize one of these heritage journeys?
Yes. Every published itinerary is a starting point. You can change hotels, add or remove days, add destinations, extend time at heritage sites, upgrade accommodation, and add private experiences. Tell us your dates, interests, and pace and we will adapt the journey accordingly.
