Not everyone has ten days in Vietnam. These are the eight journeys for three to five.
Short Vietnam Escapes is built for travellers with a narrow window — a three-day stopover between flights, a business trip with a spare weekend, a cruise with a port day, or a long-haul Asia journey where Vietnam is one leg. Each escape is private, focused on one or two bases, and designed so that three days in Hanoi actually feels like three days in Hanoi, not three days in transit.
Every escape is a starting point. Any escape can be extended, combined with another, or folded into a longer Vietnam journey. If you have four days and want both Hanoi and Halong Bay, we build that. If you have three days in Hoi An and want a day at My Son, we build that too.
What “Short Private Escape” Means
Your itinerary is designed and operated exclusively for you. Your own guide, your own vehicle and driver, and your own pre-arranged hotel stays. No group departures, no fixed start dates. The itinerary fits your arrival and departure times — not the other way around.
Short Vietnam Escapes is one of eleven collections in the Vietnam Tour Collections system — a set of journeys organised around how you actually want to travel.
Why Choose a Short Vietnam Escape
Six reasons a three-to-five-day escape works — even when a longer Vietnam journey isn’t possible.
Built for Real Short Windows
Not every short journey has to feel like a compromise. A three-day escape in Hanoi, done properly, with private transport and a good guide, is a complete experience. The journey is designed around the days you actually have.
One Base, Not Many
Short journeys should not waste time in transit. Each escape is built around a single base — Hanoi, HCMC, Hoi An, or Da Nang — so you unpack once and spend the time at the destination, not moving between them.
Add-Ons to a Longer Asia Trip
Most of our clients use a Short Escape as one leg of a longer Asia journey — combined with Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, or a cruise. The escape slots into the existing itinerary, using the same arrival and departure airports.
Business Trip or Cruise Stopover
Business trips to Hanoi and Saigon often leave a spare day or two. Cruise ships stop at Halong Bay, Da Nang, and Phu Quoc for a day. We arrange private escapes that fit inside those windows — including half-day tours when that is all the time available.
Combine Two Escapes
If you have seven or eight days, two escapes can be combined — Hanoi three days and Hoi An four days, for example. The connecting flight is short, and the two cities are entirely different Vietnams.
Extend Any Escape
Every Short Escape can be extended — add a beach finale, add Halong Bay, add the Mekong Delta, add Hue, or add Ninh Binh. The escape is a starting point, not a fixed product.
This Is One of Eleven Collections
Short Vietnam Escapes is one of eleven collections organised around how you want to travel Vietnam. If a 3-to-5-day escape is not quite right, one of the others will be.
The Short Escape Progression
Eight short escapes grouped by region and by duration — from a focused 3-day single-city escape to a 5-day journey combining a city with a regional add-on.
Where Short Escapes Go
Every Short Escape is built around one of these five cities — the four great Vietnam entry points plus Hoi An.
Choose by Region and Days Available
Short escapes split naturally into four groups — Northern Vietnam, Southern Vietnam, Central Vietnam, and combined journeys that pair two destinations.
Northern Vietnam Escapes
For travellers flying into Hanoi — the essential northern capital, plus optional Halong Bay or Ninh Binh extensions. The most popular short escape group.

Hanoi 3-Day Escape
The essential Hanoi introduction — Old Quarter, Hoan Kiem Lake, Temple of Literature.

Hanoi 4-Day Discovery
Four days in Hanoi with time for the city and a Ninh Binh or Halong Bay day trip.

Hanoi & Ha Long — 5 Days

Central Vietnam Escapes
For travellers flying into Da Nang — Hoi An’s Ancient Town, Da Nang’s beaches, and the central coast. Ideal for a mid-trip stop or an Asia journey leg.

Notes on Short Vietnam Journeys
Insights from Andy Nguyen, Vietnam Travel Expert at Asia Travel Mates.
Three Days in Hanoi Is Actually Three Days
“The mistake many travellers make is thinking three days is too short. It is not — if the journey is built properly. One base, private transport, a good guide, and a focused itinerary means three days in Hanoi feels like a proper visit. What makes a short trip feel short is transit, not duration.”
Most Clients Use Them as Add-Ons
“The majority of our Short Escape clients are not on a dedicated Vietnam trip. They are on a longer Asia journey, a business trip, or a cruise — and Vietnam is one leg. The escape slots into their existing schedule, using the arrival and departure airports they are already flying through.”
Two Escapes Are Better Than One Long One
“If you have seven or eight days, my honest advice is often two escapes rather than one long trip. Hanoi four days, then Hoi An four days. The connecting flight is short, and the two cities are entirely different Vietnams. You see more of the country than if you tried to do a single loop.”
Halong Bay Works as a 2-Day or 3-Day
“Halong Bay can be done as a two-day cruise, a three-day cruise, or a day trip from Hanoi. For a five-day escape, the overnight cruise is right. For a four-day escape, the day trip from Hanoi is often the better fit. Both are legitimate choices — the cruise is more atmospheric, the day trip is more efficient.”
The Mekong Is Easy from Saigon
“The Mekong Delta can be a day trip, an overnight, or a two-night stay. For short escapes, the day trip is usually right. For travellers who want to see the floating markets at Cai Rang, one night near Can Tho is needed — the markets operate early in the morning, before a day trip could arrive.”
Business Trip Add-Ons Are Underserved
“Many travellers don’t realise how much can be done in a spare day on a business trip. A private half-day Hanoi city tour, a day trip to Ninh Binh, or a Mekong day trip from Saigon — all fit inside a business trip window with careful planning. This is one of the most useful services we offer.”
Where a Short Escape Fits in the Bigger Picture
“Short Escapes are the shortest entry point into our Vietnam system. They are not lesser journeys — they are a different shape of journey. From here you can extend into a longer Classic route, add a beach leg through our Beach & Island collection, or shift the pace entirely with Couples, Seniors or Culture & Heritage. The Vietnam Tour Collections hub explains how all eleven collections relate.”

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Short Vietnam Escape?
A Short Vietnam Escape is a private journey of 3 to 5 days built around a single city or region. They are designed for travellers who already have limited time in Vietnam — either as the main purpose of a short trip, or as an add-on to a longer Asia itinerary. Each escape is private, fully guided, and built around one or two comfortable bases.
Can these short escapes combine with a longer Asia trip?
Yes. Short Vietnam Escapes are commonly added on to a longer Asia trip, a business trip, a cruise, or a stopover. They can be booked as standalone journeys or combined in sequence — for example Hanoi 3 days, then Hoi An 4 days — so long as the flights connect.
Which short escape is best for a first visit to Vietnam?
For a first visit, the Hanoi 3-Day Escape or the Hanoi & Halong Bay 5-day journey are strong introductions to northern Vietnam. The HCMC 3-Day Escape or HCMC & Mekong 4-day journey introduce southern Vietnam. Which one suits depends on your arrival city and the wider trip you are planning.
Are these short escapes private?
Yes. All Short Vietnam Escapes are private journeys — your own guide, your own transportation, and your own itinerary. No group departures, no fixed dates.
How many hotel changes are involved?
Most short escapes are built around a single hotel base — one city, one stay. Escapes that combine two destinations (for example Hanoi & Halong Bay, or HCMC & Mekong) involve one or two nights away from the main base, but no more than one hotel change overall.
Can we extend a short escape into a longer journey?
Yes. Every Short Vietnam Escape is a starting point. You can extend any escape by adding days, adding destinations, or combining two or more escapes in sequence. If the escape becomes a longer trip, the natural next step is the Vietnam Tour Collections hub — ten longer, deeper journeys from 9 to 33 days. For a beach-focused extension, see Vietnam Beach & Island Holidays.
Can we customize the itinerary?
Yes. You can change hotels, add or remove activities, extend beach time, add a cooking class, adjust the pace, or combine the escape with other Vietnam journeys. Tell us your dates, interests, and travel style and we will adapt the escape accordingly.
What is included in the short escape price?
All Short Vietnam Escapes include accommodation, meals as specified, private guides and transportation, entrance fees, and airport transfers. International flights, visa fees, travel insurance, and personal expenses are not included. Internal flights between cities, if required, are quoted separately.
What is the best time of year for a short Vietnam escape?
Vietnam has three distinct regions with different best seasons. Northern Vietnam (Hanoi, Halong Bay, Ninh Binh) is best from October to April. Central Vietnam (Hoi An, Da Nang) is best from February to August. Southern Vietnam (HCMC, Mekong Delta) is best from November to April. We plan each escape around the best season for its destination.
Can you arrange a short escape for a business trip or cruise stopover?
Yes. We regularly arrange short escapes around business trips and cruise schedules. Tell us your arrival and departure dates and we will fit the escape into the available window — including a half-day tour if that is all the time available.
